Accessing Your Inheritance: A Call to Action
The Bible teaches that an heir, as long as he is a child, is no different than a servant. He is placed under tutors and governors until he comes of age (Galatians 4:1–2). These tutors and governors are meant to guide and mature the heir so he can manage his inheritance wisely.
But there is something remarkable: even as a young heir, if he is awakened to who he is, he can exercise the authority he carries and declare, “I am now mature enough to govern by myself.”
Many people qualify for an inheritance but never push to access it. Consider the story of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11–32). The younger son asked for his inheritance and received it, though he was not yet ready to manage it. The elder son, however, never asked. He stayed in the house and never had access to what was rightfully his.
The same principle applies to spiritual and material inheritance in our lives. There are those who know of the promises but are not positioned to receive. When Elijah was preparing to pass his mantle, the sons of the prophets knew he was going, but they did not position themselves to receive. Only Elisha was ready and willing, and therefore he inherited a double portion of Elijah’s spirit (2 Kings 2:9–15).
What Is Restricting You From Your Inheritance?
Immaturity – Sometimes we are not ready to manage the blessing, and God’s timing is perfect.
Stewards or governors – Those placed to guide us might delay or challenge our access.
Our own choice – Often, the only barrier is our lack of initiative. The inheritance is ours, but we must ask, position ourselves, and step into it.
The limitation to inheritance is not always maturity or circumstance—it is often a decision we have not made. God has already placed blessings and authority in our hands, and all that is required is a declaration: “I want my inheritance.”
Prayer Points to Access Your Inheritance
1. Declare Your Coming of Age
Scripture: Galatians 4:1–2; Luke 15:12–13
Prayer:
Father, I have come of age. I declare that I am mature enough to manage the inheritance You have prepared for me. Release my inheritance into my hands, in Jesus’ name.
2. Release From Those Who Are Holding Your Inheritance
Scripture: 2 Kings 2:9–15
Prayer:
Father, whoever has been placed over my life to help me mature and has withheld what is mine, I ask You to release it. Force the hand of my helpers, in Jesus’ name, so that I can receive what You have prepared for me.
3. Release From Enemies Blocking Your Inheritance
Scripture: Isaiah 54:17; Psalm 68:1–2
Prayer:
Father, cause my enemies to release what is mine. Remove every hindrance and opposition that has delayed my blessings. Let Your favor go before me and open doors that no man can shut, in Jesus’ name.
4. Pray for Wisdom to Manage Your Inheritance
Scripture: James 1:5; Proverbs 3:13–16
Prayer:
Father, give me wisdom to manage every inheritance You have released into my hands. Teach me to steward all I receive so that it multiplies and glorifies Your name, in Jesus’ name.
Conclusion
Inheritance is not automatic; it requires initiative, faith, and a declaration. God has prepared blessings, authority, and provision for your life. Step forward today, claim your inheritance, and pray for the wisdom to steward it well. The promise is yours—position yourself to receive it!
